Today I was at my table thinking about what to write for this blog. It is supposed to be about gravity. I was playing with my pencil as my mind was imagining me jumping from my roof to see if I could fly. Suddenly, my pencil flew from hand. I thought hard. Since gravity pulls everything on earth down, I could not fly far before I fell. Hard. And my pencil was now across the room. These are examples of contact force. Let me tell you about non-contact force. Two months ago, just after my brother and I got into bed, we heard a LOUD crackling noise then a boom and the whole house shook! The next morning we went outside to play and our whole front yard was a tree! What we had heard was a giant tree that had fallen inches from our house. We discovered the roots of the tree were weak and gravity pulled the heavy branches to the ground. THIS is non-contact force. Now we use the tree as a jungle gym until it gets chopped up for firewood. Now I am careful on my new jungle gym due to mass plus gravity plus force. Just in case.
