It's readin' time, kids. Everybody grab a book, find a comfy spot, and dig in!
Until recently, almost all of my reading was personal. I wasn't finding books that spoke to my energy and interests. Right now, though, I'm enjoying Learn Like a Pirate by Paul Solarz. Paul's writing about his classroom really speaks to me. Each page I turn feels like I'm stumbling on a more fully realized version of what I'm trying to do with my classroom. Imagine heading down the road with an idea of what you wanted, but no map. Now picture getting pretty far down the road and being handed a complete guidebook to your destination, just as you were thinking, "I hope I'm headed in the right direction!" That's Paul's book so far for me.
As far as personal reading, I've been stalled for a while. I was working my way through the Game of Thrones books, but I got stalled on one of the less interesting characters, and need to get shoved back into reading again. Lately I've been reading some comic books. I like Powers (an old favorite), The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Sparks Nevada Marshal on Mars, and iZombie,. I'm looking forward to starting Seconds by Bryan Lee O'Malley, the creator of Scott Pilgrim. In the world of novels, I've really enjoyed Neil Gaiman's writing for kids and for Doctor Who, so I'd like to check out some of his adult fiction, as well.
